The Pauline McLeod Award for Reconciliation aims to recognise those "silent achievers" who have worked diligently in promoting reconciliation through selfless acts. This prestigious award was presented as part of National Reconciliation Week by the Eastern Regional Local Government Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Forum which incorporates the City of Botany, City of Sydney, Leichhardt, Randwick City, Waverley and Woollahra Councils. The accolade was awarded for the exceptional work delivered by Peter and Greg for the La Perouse Aboriginal Land Council, as part of a project for Lend Lease Community Day in September 2010. The project was a return visit to La Perouse, building on the already great work carried out by the team in 2009. Peter was the Team Leader in 2009 and Greg was Team Leader in 2010, with both integral to the success of each project. Continuing the great work carried out in 2009, Greg and Peter commenced the refurbishment and upgrade on the Yarra Bay House and grounds in 2010, the headquarters of the La Perouse Aboriginal Land Council and a facility that is regularly used by the Aboriginal community. The project involved the construction of concrete disabled access paths, installation of picnic tables, guttering replacement, building garden beds for a community veggie garden as well as repairing and replacing existing boundary fencing, painting, and general maintenance. On the day, Greg and Peter led a team of approximately 50 Lend Lease employees, subcontractors, and willing community members to task to successfully complete all planned works. The project was so well received that the La Perouse Aboriginal Land Council nominated Peter and Greg for the Pauline McLeod Award to recognise the valuable contribution they and the team had given the Aboriginal community. The awards committee noted that they believed Peter and Greg "assisted to greatly improve the quality of life for people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent within the community". On winning the award Peter commented, "I feel very special to receive this recognition, and would like to acknowledge the importance of The Lend Lease Foundation as part of this. Their desire to build bridges to the community and give something back allowed us the time and resources to put together such a day. Many people got into the spirit of the day putting in a really big effort and I'm sure Greg would join me in thanking all those involved for achieving the outcomes we did". Greg also commented, "I feel honoured to have been able to contribute to the Aboriginal community in my area by assisting to make one of their key centres a place that not only meets their needs, but is somewhere where the community wants to gather together. Congratulations to Pete and the rest of the team". Greg noted that a third Community Day project to assist the Aboriginal community was highly likely later this year.
